THE THEATRE

The Academy Theatre (formerly known as The Amulet) has the history of being a significant venue for music, theatre and film in the South West of England.   A gift to the town from the Showerings family (the original producers of Babycham), the theatre was erected in the 1970’s using the very best technology of the day.  In fact the theatre has the only suspended seating systems in the UK, offering unrivalled flexibility – just press a button and the seats disappear into the ceiling.

Since 2006 the Theatre complex has become the home of BAPA and StarXpress, and has undergone refurbishment to provide modern training facilities.  Although the Theatre is well equipped much of the equipment and systems are out dated and in need of replacement /overhaul to bring them up to a modern standard.  During 2008 / 09 there are plans to fully restore the main theatre auditorium with a view to provide a full programme of performances and events which  meet our long term aim of offering a range of quality theatrical, musical and other entertainment experiences which promotes a love of arts and specifically a love for this theatre, by engaging the community with this facility and creating projects relevant and exciting to them.  Our vision for this  theatre is for it to become the cultural focus for etc.

Academy Theatre is a registered non profit making Limited Company and is currently applying for charitable status.
